When people are starting their online businesses, they need to drive traffic to their websites. However, in most cases, people do not have the money to pay for advertising.
There are many ways to driving traffic to a website, depending on your budget and the time you have available to work on building your online business.
This article lists the most powerful and low cost ways to generate traffic to your website.
1. Offer free reports and content. Giving away some freebies and including your website URL in those freebies is an effective and low cost way of building traffic to your website. You can write some useful short reports with your website link in them and offer those reports for free on a website where you ask visitors to leave their email address before they download the free reports or articles. This means you can give away the report with your URL and also build a list.
2. Blog. Blogging is a very effective way of building traffic to your website. On your blog, you can discuss your website’s products and services, and add some links to your website. You can also answer any questions your prospects and customers may have. By blogging regularly, you will have fresh content that will get your website indexed by search engines and rank high on these search engines. This in turn increases traffic to your website.
3. Publish your own newsletter. Having your own newsletter where you offer free tips and content on a regular basis can help to increase traffic to your website. Your newsletter will have links to your website, so many people who will read your newsletter will also visit your website.
4. Start a forum related to the products or services you sell on your website. By having a forum on your niche, you establish yourself as an authority in your topic. By answering questions and helping people in your niche on your own forum, you drive traffic to your website since you will have your website URL in your signature in the forum posts.
5. Exchange links with websites that have high popularity (PR) rank. All you need to do is to find websites that are related to what you offer on your website and exchange links with these sites. This is particularly effective if the websites have high popularity rank on search engines. By doing this, some traffic will come to your website through the websites you are linked to.
These are the low cost ways you can use start driving traffic to your website. More traffic means more sales and profits for your online business.

Why do I need to build a list?

How many times have you heard “the money is in the list” or “the fortune is in the follow up”…
Hundreds, thousands? and with good reason.
The money IS in the list! Building your OWN list, not a lead list you have purchased, is the one asset which can be most profitable for you. It’s the one thing that all successful marketers have in common.
Even though you’ve heard it thousands of times, why are you NOT doing it?
What’s stopping you?
I’ve found that it is usually due to 2 reasons…
1. You don’t know how to get started and
2. FEAR!
You are scared to ‘force’ someone to give you their contact information upfront. Let me ask you something…Do you really think that a person that was not willing to provide you with their contact information will actually give you their credit card information?? I can honestly tell you that 98% won’t…Keep reading and I’ll explain why.
So many beginning marketers very quickly become frustrated by their lack of response and results with their online marketing and just give up completely. The reason they fail is that their marketing approach is flawed… How is it flawed? They ask for the sale way too soon.
Before you ask for the sale, you must develop a relationship. Earn their trust! This is done by first educating and offering something of value to them upfront, usually at no cost to them other then their contact information.
Build your list first…. The ’sale’ will come later.
Building a list and especially one of prospects that are interested in exactly what you have to offer is the most powerful marketing technique ever devised.
Major corporations such as the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times are doing it. They too see the value in building a list. If they’re doing it, shouldn’t you?
There are multiple benefits of a large, growing, and responsive opt-in email list:
- Increases your opportunities for selling multiple products and services.
- Allows you to build relationships (the key to a successful long-term business) quickly and easily, which result in more sales and profits.
- Heightens your visibility and credibility.
Ever notice marketers that seem to have a magic touch? It seems they can effortlessly build a large downline or make a large amount of affiliate income so quickly.
The ‘Magic’ was in their List and follow up! They already had their own optin list to market to! A list of people that knew them, liked them and more importantly trusted them!
Just take a look at these statistics:
Statistics from the National Sales Association
* 2% of sales are made on the 1st contact
* 3% of sales are made on the 2nd contact
* 5% of sales are made on the 3rd contact
* 10% of sales are made on the 4th contact
* 80% of sales are made on the 5th-12th contact
As you can see, being able to capture your visitors contact information on their first visit is critical so that you can reap the benefits in the followup! Otherwise you are potentially missing out on 98% of your sales!
It’s interesting to point out from the above statistics that the majority of sales, 80% , are not made until at least the 5th contact. Why do you think this is?
Simple…By then you have begun to build trust and a relationship with that person.
If you haven’t already, you’ll want to get started building your optin list today!
